Careers
Aims
Our careers programme aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to make informed decisions about their future education and career pathways. We do this by focusing on:
- Self-awareness: Helping students understand their strengths, interests, and aspirations.
- Career exploration: Exposing students to a wide range of career possibilities and the pathways to reach them.
- Decision-making: Equipping students with the skills to make informed decisions about their GCSE options, post-16 pathways, and future careers.
- Employability skills: Developing the skills and attributes that employers value, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Content Overview
We deliver our careers programme through a variety of activities and events, including:
- PSHE lessons: Careers education is embedded within our PSHE curriculum, covering topics such as self-awareness, career exploration, and decision-making.
- Assemblies: We hold careers assemblies featuring guest speakers from various industries and professions.
- Employer visits: We invite employers into school to talk to students about their roles and the skills required for their industry.
- Mock interviews: We provide students with the opportunity to practise their interview skills in a mock setting.
- Work experience: We arrange work experience placements for students in Year 10 to gain real-world experience in a workplace setting.
- Careers fairs: We host an annual careers fair where students can meet with representatives from a variety of employers and educational institutions.
- Xello & Unifrog: We use these online platforms to provide students with access to careers information and guidance resources.

- Learning from career and labour market information: We use a variety of resources, including Xello and LMI for All, to provide students with up-to-date information about careers and the labour market.
- Addressing the needs of each student: We provide personalised guidance to students to help them make informed decisions about their future.
- Linking curriculum learning to careers: We make explicit links between the curriculum and careers, helping students see how their studies relate to the world of work.
- Encounters with employers and employees: We organise employer visits, careers fairs, and other events to give students the opportunity to meet with employers and employees.
