Mathematics Curriculum

Maths Curriculum Intent

Every student will follow a curriculum that allows them to achieve and be successful in Maths as we understand that all students are different!

Delivering a knowledge-rich curriculum in mathematics means ensuring students gain a deep, coherent, and well-sequenced understanding of key mathematical concepts, facts, and procedures. It goes beyond procedural fluency to include conceptual understanding, reasoning, and problem-solving.

Ensuring rigorous standards in mathematics means consistently delivering high-quality instruction that challenges all students, secures deep understanding, and builds mathematical fluency and reasoning. Rigour is about more than difficulty—it's about precision, coherence, and ambition in both teaching and learning.

Developing disciplinary expertise in mathematics means enabling teachers—and by extension, students—to engage with mathematics not just as a set of skills or topics, but as a coherent, structured, and reasoning-rich discipline. This goes beyond knowing what to teach to understanding why mathematical ideas work, how they connect, and how best to communicate them.

Building cultural capital for all in mathematics means ensuring every student—regardless of background—has access to the powerful knowledge, ways of thinking, and experiences that enable them to succeed in school and life. In mathematics, cultural capital is not just about knowing formulae; it's about understanding the value, history, utility, and beauty of maths in the wider world.

Developing well-rounded individuals in mathematics means fostering not just mathematical skills and knowledge, but also attitudes, habits, and broader competencies that prepare students for lifelong learning, problem solving, and informed citizenship. It’s about shaping learners who appreciate maths deeply, think critically, communicate clearly, and apply maths confidently in diverse contexts.

Creating an inclusive learning environment in mathematics means ensuring every student, regardless of ability, background, or identity, feels valued, supported, and able to access the full richness of the curriculum. Inclusion is about equity—removing barriers so all learners can thrive and develop confidence and competence in mathematics.

Igniting aspiration in mathematics means inspiring students to see maths not just as a subject to pass, but as a gateway to exciting futures, personal growth, and real-world impact. It’s about fueling motivation, broadening horizons, and helping students believe in their own potential in mathematics and beyond.
