Music Curriculum
Music Curriculum Intent
Our music curriculum is designed to deliver a knowledge-rich and ambitious program that cultivates deep musical understanding and ignites creativity. We prioritise the explicit teaching of powerful musical knowledge, carefully sequenced through our learning journey across KS3 to develop a strong grasp of core concepts, from foundational elements to historical contexts. Through rigorous standards, we foster excellence by encouraging deep knowledge mastery and the pursuit of the highest levels of musical understanding. We embed this knowledge through consistent retrieval practice, ensuring it becomes firmly embedded in long-term memory.
We develop disciplinary expertise by explicitly teaching students the specific ways of listening, performing, composing, and analyzing that are unique to music. This includes fostering critical listening skills, technical proficiency on instruments and voice, and innovative approaches to musical creation and problem-solving.
Ultimately, our intent is to foster a lifelong love of music, encourage resilience and creative expression, and equip every student with the knowledge, skills, and appreciation to become a well-rounded individual who can participate fully in and contribute to the vibrant world of music.
