KS4 Options 2025-2027

Key Stage 4  Options Process

In the spring term of Year 9, all pupils are informed about the choices that they can make for their KS4 courses.  Each year, we review the courses that we offer based on the success of the courses in the previous year, evaluation of new courses that are available, their success in other local schools, the popularity of courses and the availability of specialist staff in school to deliver particular courses.  This means that although some courses are offered every year, others may not be available to every cohort.

In January, we will provide an outline the courses on offer for the consideration of our current Year 9 students.  Depending on the popularity of these courses some may be available to multiple groups of students and others may be oversubscribed if we can not accommodate multiple groups in a specialist area where there is only one subject specialist.  Pupils and parents should read this information very carefully, following the advice included to select 4 subjects and reserve subjects.

Here is our planned timeline for completing the 2026 Options process:

Wednesday 7th January The 'Options' process begins with an assembly
Friday 9th January 2026 Options Course Information will be made available via the school website.
From Monday 19th January Students can experience taster lessons in GCSE subjects
Wednesday 28th January (TBC) Y9 Options Event - details to be confirmed soon.

Friday 13th February 

4pm

Electronic Options forms to be completed.  Parents will be emailed a link to the form in February.

May 2026

Pupils receive a letter confirming allocated options.

Wednesday 30th September

Final deadline for requesting changes to KS4 courses.

Parents are encouraged to contact school using the options change request form below if your child changes their mind about an option between February and September. Where possible, changes will be accommodated.

If you need to request an option change, please use the link below to complete the Google form to request a change.  Instructions about this process can be found on the form. Changes can only be accommodated if there are places available in the desired subject and if the request is made prior to October of Year 10.

KS4 Support Information

Following the beginning of KS4 Courses, we meet with parents and pupils to share a more information to support students in the first term of their new courses.  This is evening where students received advice about coping with the demands of GCSEs and some advice from all 3 Core Subject Curriculum Leaders.
