Overview
Teacher of English
Required from: January 2027
Salary: Teacher Pay Scale
Shevington High School is a successful and popular 11–16 community school, built upon our core values of respect, inclusion, aspiration and kindness. We are proud of our welcoming ethos, our ambitious curriculum and the strong relationships we foster between staff and pupils.
We are looking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of English to join our successful English Department. English is at the heart of the curriculum at Shevington High School, and we are looking for someone who shares our ambition to provide an excellent experience for every student and secure strong outcomes.
The successful candidate will have strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver high-quality English teaching across KS3 and KS4. Our curriculum is well established and comprehensively resourced, with detailed schemes of work, lesson materials and supporting resources in place. We are looking for a teacher who will make effective use of these resources while bringing their own subject expertise and enthusiasm to the classroom and working collaboratively with colleagues.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Shevington High School and become part of a supportive and successful department. Our English curriculum is ambitious and designed to develop students’ knowledge, confidence and appreciation of language and literature. We want our students to become confident readers, writers and communicators who recognise the importance of English both within school and in their wider lives.
Digital technology is an important part of our approach to teaching and learning, with all students having access to their own device. The successful candidate will embrace our digital strategy and use technology purposefully alongside high-quality classroom teaching to support learning, engagement and students’ development as independent learners.
The successful candidate will play an important role in developing our students’ knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for English. Alongside delivering high-quality lessons, we want someone who will have high expectations for every student, foster a genuine engagement with the subject and contribute positively to the continued development of English within the school.
The school reserves the right to interview and appoint this position ahead of any advised application closing date should an appropriate candidate be found. Therefore, it is advisable to submit applications as early as possible.
As part of the shortlisting process we will carry out an online/social media search as part of our due diligence on the shortlisted candidates as per guidance from Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025.
