iMedia Curriculum Intent

Our Creative iMedia curriculum at Key Stage 4 aims to empower students to become skilled, innovative, and responsible creators of digital media. In a world saturated with digital content, we believe it is vital for students to not only consume but also to understand the processes, tools, and ethical considerations involved in its production. Our vision is to cultivate digitally literate individuals who can creatively communicate, solve real-world design problems, and contribute positively to the ever-evolving creative industries.

This vision is deeply embedded within our core school values of kindness, respect, inclusion, and aspiration.

Core Principles

Our curriculum is built upon the following core principles, intertwined with our school values:

Creative Problem Solving: To develop students' abilities to interpret client briefs, research effectively, and devise original and effective digital media solutions. This fosters aspiration to produce high-quality, innovative work that meets specific needs.

Technical Proficiency: To equip students with practical skills in industry-standard software and techniques for creating a range of digital media products (e.g., graphics, interactive media, animations). This builds confidence and competence, encouraging aspiration to master complex tools.

Critical Analysis and Evaluation: To encourage students to critically analyse existing media products, understand design principles, and evaluate their own work against a client brief and media conventions. This promotes respect for quality and a thoughtful approach to design.

Ethical and Legal Awareness: To develop a strong understanding of legal and ethical issues within the media industry, including copyright, intellectual property, data protection, and responsible online behaviour. This instills kindness and respect for creators and users, fostering responsible digital citizenship and promoting inclusion by considering diverse audiences.

Project Management and Professionalism: To provide students with experience in managing projects from conception to completion, including planning, time management, and documentation. This cultivates a professional mindset and a sense of aspiration for industry standards.
