In June a selected group of Year 6 pupils from various primary schools in the area were invited to attend The Numeracy Champions Day with the Faculty of Mathematics. The theme of the day was Japan. This was chosen because there are many strands of Mathematics within the Japanese culture. The Shape and Space element of Mathematics was Origami; where one our current Y11 pupils (Sean Holland) demonstrated and assisted pupils in the Japanese art of paper folding. We looked at Number by studying the Japanese currency and compared Exchange Rates.
